WHAT IS AN APPRENTICE?

At SFSDF an Apprentice:

  - Works with a mentor who is an expert in their field
  - Participates in creative and technical decision-making
  - Is directly involved in the process of movie-making
  - Takes on responsibility

When working on professional productions as part of their curriculum, all the students at SFSDF are apprentices. By learning their craft on a real movie set, students acquire the skills and contacts necessary to help them succeed in a highly competitive field.

WHAT IS AN INTERN?

An intern may or may not be able to work on a meaningful project and may end up performing administrative, non-film-related chores. Though internships might at some point be useful experiences for them, students do NOT work as interns while at SFSDF. Our school's mission and primary purpose are to provide instruction to our students, not to provide cheap labor to feature movie makers.
